Looking for the best options for hunting bullets in my 260. Been using Sierra smk because they have great accuracy but want something that is accurate (like the smk) but suited for hunting.

Used for whitetail deer (120-150 lbs average)

Looking for something reliable to 600 yards.

I run a 338 LM for these distances but also have a 260 along with several buddies who have 260's. I know other cartridges are better suited for that distance but let's just keep the discussion to the 260 options for now

130 g accubond would be my choice. .488 bc and accubonds have been proven time and again to kill quickly both near and far. I have seen the accubond long range bullets deform when seated because of the ultra thin jackets.

Could also go with a Berger hunter for better bc, I know plenty that hunt with them. I actually know a girl that killed a bull elk at 350ish yards with one out of a 6.5x284 last year.

Another to look at is the Hornady eld-x. Very similar performance to the a-Max which has killed a lot of animals.

berger VLDs have been used very successfully for years as hunting bullets.

Nothing wrong with the game king.

140 Amax (ELD-M) are devastating on deer.
You don't need a bonded bullet for deer.
A rapid expansion or frangable bullet like a Berger or Amax will kill a deer/antelope much quicker in my experiences than a deep penetrating controlled expansion bullet like a Barnes or others. At 600yds a 260 bullet doesn't have enough velocity or energy for those types of bullets to open up and do any damage, mite as well be shooting FMJs.
Elk is a different story, if I were hunting elk with a 260 then I'd look at accubond, partition, gameking or Barnes

Look at the Hornady 143 ELD-X. http://www.hornady.com/store/ELD-X

I've used amax and they were very similar to matchkings on deer. That was with my 308. Was thinking the Bergers. Their a bit more money but only using for LR practice/hunting.

How do the ELD compare to the amax on deer. Anyone with real world experience with both?

Berger hands down. Deer at 600 for a 260 is breeze.

ELD Match is the same as Amax.
ELD-X is like an Amax/SST cross
Haven't killed anything with the ELD-X yet, but they should open up easily at long range like an Amax but hold together better at close range due to the lock ring like an SST.

What your rifle shoots the best! I don't know if I'd use the accubond you really have to have them cooking to perform good. I'd think at 600 a B-tip would do better. I have taken a few deer at a fair poke with my old lady's 260 and the B-tips performance is really good. I'd shoot the most accurate bullet that will open up at extended ranges. And that little 260 is a fine deer rifle. I'm not aloud to mess with hers any more because I'm too ruff with her baby. Lol.
