I have a mdl 16 in 260 Remington, love the rifle but hated the stock. It was very finicky on the hold and honestly i had trouble shooting good groups with it. After looking around for a while I decided on a Bodys featherweight thumb hole. I shoot lh and my rifle is rh, I asked if I could get a lh stock with rh inletting, no. So I ordered a lh and inletted for my rifle.

Thanks guys. It's ready to shoot, I just can't remove the bolt until my parts get here from Savage LOL. The cheek riser is finished.

Very cool mod. Did you bed the whole action or just plug the LH inletting? My suggestion is to add action pillars the laminate still feels a bit soft when torquing action screws.

Don't be shocked when it cracks right through the bolt handle cut......

Hahaha I just scrolled straight to the finished product.

SS why would it crack? Seriously curious it's just a .260 not a monster mag with the action bedded and filling the LH inlet I would think it would be fine. Is it because of the laminate or just a stress point you are concerned about? I ask because my brother was asking if I could do this same thing for him.

You may be right and time will tell. The left bolt slot has a piece of tig rod bridging the slot and epoxied in the stock before the slot was filled. Also I used a dremel to rough up and cut grooves for the epoxy to bite to. I was surprised how hard and dense the laminate was.

Care to share any details on that comb raiser? How's it mounted and so forth

The cheek riser is a piece I made, bought a 12" x 24" piece of kydex and made risers for my 22-250 and the factory stock for this rifle. After test fitting the action in the new stock the comb was to low on it too, so I made a template and then the riser. The screws are 1/2" long self drilling used for metal stud framing.

Where the bolt handle cuts are is the thinnest cross section of the stock. You would be surprised how much stress is on that section. I have done a few the same way you did with some sort of "re-rod" and epoxy, and they still crack. The epoxy and reinforcement does not have the same expansion rate as the laminate, and at some time will separate.

I'll shoot until it cracks then make another plan.

That's right bud. That is some fine work. I work on my own stuff also. And You did a good job. It might last forever the rifle doesn't rattle your teeth and be easy with it don't wack gators in the head with it and use it for a boat paddle it might last forever. It looks real good like it should..But it might break too its just how it is. At least you will know if it does so you don't put 10 rifles in one .

Thanks. This rifle has very little recoil and I'll be surprised if it breaks. If it does it was a lesson learned.
