wow thats a long tube. why so long? .223 ai gets most of its performance out of a 22" tube after that the gains taper off quickly. Apache and Dennis may be able to take care of you. or Jim's BIL (apache) Bison would be another option off the top of my head.

I am looking for maximum velocity from 77-80gr bullets. I have seen some impressive numbers from 26-28" barrels tho only 50-100fps faster than 24" barrels.

I might get into 22-204 or 222ai mag later on but i like the fact that you can fire regular 223 in an AI chamber.

yeah I still want an .223 AI myself. make sure you have it throated for the heavies (think 2.45-2.52 coal is what most are doing with a-max's) and go 1:8 or faster twist. I'd skip over the 22-204 or 222ai(the gains above .223ai will be minimal) and jump into a fast twist 22-250 throated for 90's for simplicity sake.

Shilen does

I'm thinking Shilen is my top but wouldn't mind getting a green mountain blank turned for the right price. Don't they have a 6 week turn around time?

Shilen 6 weeks to 2 months. Maybe longer.

I would recommend getting ahold of Jim at Bisongunworks. I have a 223 barrel coming from him on Monday. He mainly uses Green Mountain or Xcaliber blanks and has some good prices and I've heard really good things about his work.

Criterion makes one also. Very good prefits. Call or email NSS.

I got my 223AI barrel from Lothar Walther Company in Cummings Georgia and have absolutely no complaints with their barrel quality. Check out their web site, prices are very reasonable.

I've got a 30 inch 7 twist f class take off barrel on my .223. Shoots 7 an 80 grain bullets well out to 1K.

Agreed on the price and they have some interesting chambers like the 7.5 x 55 Swiss R I am interested in.

I got a Shilen from NSS in .223AI, 26", 9 twist a couple months back. Only took 3 weeks.

Is yours a small shank? I looked at them months back when looking for a new Savage pre-fit 223, and could not determine what shank size they made. Called them and left message, but never heard back, so I went with Criterion.

I have always been impressed with German steel, and theirs is really top grade. Would love to own one, but forgot about German companies tendency to ignore customers. Long history there, so don't ask. But generally, you send an email, expect to wait 2 weeks for reply. Send a letter, wait 2 months. Nothing like American business models and the immediate reply.

Yes is small shank. I dealt with them on the phone so didn't run into any delays. Cummings is in the west metro Atlanta area approximately 120 miles north of me. I had my barrel in 5 days but that was back in 2008.
