I am looking at swapping out the barrel on my 111 from .223 to .243. I think I would need a different magazine. Where do you find a replacement for a blind magazine? Would I need a different bolt?

Thanks

I think you may need a different bolt head. Check out this link at the top of this forum under FAQ's;http://www.savageshooters.com/content.php?264-What-Fits-Cartridge-List-%28PDF-version%29

There are additional articles that may answer your magazine question.

Barrel, bolt head, extractor, magazine, and follower.
You can pick up a 308 magazine almost anywhere, squeeze the bottom together, remove the bottom plate, and install it into your action.

"111 in 223"? If in fact if its a 111 its a long action w/5.062" action screw spacing and may be a LA configured as a short action, extended from baffle, short mag opening, long action bolthead, etc.

Measure the screw spacing and report back.

It is definitely a 111.

The front two screws are about 5" apart.

It looks like there is a spacer in the magazine.

Does it have an extension on front baffle like the one shown here?

OK, you have one of these critters.

A long action configured as a short action w/ short mag and the extended front baffle.

You'll need a long action bolt head for the 308-'06 cartridges a box short box. I don't remember if those baffles have the bolt guide(fin) or not. If it does grind it off then flip the baffle 180 so the extension is on the left to lengthen the rear bolt throw.
Another thing I'm not sure of is if they has the older 1.40" or .095" firing pins, the section below the bolthead retaining pin. If its the older .140 and you get a newer .095" bolthead you'll need it open it with a 9/64"drill bit but only to vent, the hole between the lugs. Past the vent the pins are the same diameter.

I may have missed something but all in all its a pretty simple conversion.
Oh, and that LA 223 bolthead. Hang on to it, they're as scarce as an honest politician! :p

Just did this but on a short action .223 to .243. I called Jim at Northland and he sent everything I needed, bolt head, mag, barrel. Catch him by phone between 7-8 am central time.

Had you considered a long action cartridge ? 243 is a bit of a barrel burner

308 is good as well though its a short action cartridge.

I am still pondering . A creedmoor could go in either length action right?

Since his long action more than likely has the shelf that makes it a short action, long action cartridges are out of the question without machining the action.

Yes, but there's really no point in using a long action since the Creed was designed to allow the use of long bullets in a short action with plenty of room in the magazine.
You have a long action in bolt spacing/bolt length only. It functions as a short action due to that built in shelf that restricts magazine length.

Good points. Thoughts on a Rem 260?

Am I missing something, 243 not Creed?
