Last week bought the cabelas savage 12fv 223 cal gun. I think it it called a short action , blind magazine ( not detachable magazine ) and I think it is a varmint barrel ( good size dia ( not a bull barrel) ????? I could not get any one on the phone today at Boyd's to talk to them about it. Just wondering what Boyd stock some if you guys have bought for your gun ? Marty

In The Drop Down Menu:

Savage
12 Top bolt release
Bolt Act-Blind Mag-Short Act-Center Feed-Bull Barrel
Pro Varmint
Blk

when you get there you can select customize if you desire a colored laminate if you choose

You will either need to buy the boyds trigger guard or inlet the stock for the 12FV trigger guard.
I just got that stock and the inletting for the trigger guard was not deep or wide enough.

What lavahunter said got me thinking. I have a Boyds stock waiting for a 12FV, so I popped off the trigger guard and test fit it only to discover it is different from the one typically used in Boyds stocks.

12FV on the left, Boyds on the right

It looks like the 12FV ships with a "new style" trigger guard where Boyds stocks use an "old style".

And yes it is a Heavy Barrel, Savage calls it a Varmint profile, I would call it an HB this is a bit shy of a bull but only one step down.

I went through the trigger guard hassle when I bought a laminate stock for my son's 12FV. The trigger guard from my 12BVSS would fit, but the original FV guard would not. Someone here posted the Savage part number for a black BVSS style guard and I bought from Savage. As I recall, it was two bucks and fit perfectly.

Edit: Here's the part number; 105417
