Alright fellas, we're not here to discuss ethics of shots on animals. We can start a new thread for that. Got confirmation of my order from McGowen late last night (midday US time)

Quick update. Just ordered a Viper PST 6-24x50 FFP. I've only spent more on one gun than this scope ever. Next up is the stock and then I'll get to sourcing the smaller items like recoil lug, bases, rings, and bipod.

On the barrel choice, I would consider McGowen the most likely to have problems. Not all but both have consistent reports of poor barrels

X-caliber has had universal good reviews and particularly impressed people when Apache has supplied them.

Shilen seems to be a consistent good supplier though usually not available in less than 6 weeks (few if any on the shelf)

Too late now. This is my first foray into aftermarket barrels and I heard lots of good about McGowen so I went with them. Their site was also easy to use.

Well you do move fast.

My brother has a McGowan that is great, has a couple more headed his way.

I have a Shilen and a X-Caliber, will see how they do in comparison.

I would not be concerned about McGowen quality or reputation at all. They have quality products, have never heard differently, and I have a few that all shoot better than 1/2-1/4 MOA

Barrel on the way. Scope still on backorder. Just need to order the stock and then it's just a matter of tools and rings and such

What twist did you end up going with?

1 in 8. I figure for my build goals it will be plenty. A dead deer or yote doesn't care if you were using a 95 105 or 115gr bullet

That will do. If you YouTube take a look at Mark & Sam After Work. He shoots a 243 well out past 1500 yards with the 95 gr Berger VLD's with a 1:10 no less.

I'll have to look into that. I know TheDartman76 has some good long range coyotes with a 243

I'm not sure how well your internal magazine will install in the Bell & Carlson. I briefly toyed with installing my 12FV centerfeed internal magazine in a B&C Medalist A2 and gave up. I had decided to go with a DBM, anyway. Entire rifle in B&C stock is at CDI right now being inletted for their DBM. CDI has a DBM for your rifle as well. They will inlet the stock for free if you pay for shipping the rifle to them. The DBM will set you back another $300 plus magazines when all said and done. I'm including shipping back and forth to Sarasota, FL. It will be worth it for me.

^^^^ ?????

12fv is center feed blind mag. Bell and Carlson makes stocks for center feed blind mags. That should not be an issue whatsoever.

I'm good on CDI for now. This build is already getting pretty expensive.

The 12FV center feed blind mag is a POS. You realize this once you have it out of the factory stock. It was not a drop-in to the B&C made for this rifle. It would require some "finessing". I was already going down the DBM path, so I didn't spend much time with it. Trust me, I just dealt with this. It truly was a fitment issue if I really wanted to keep the blind mag. All that being said, I love the B&C Medalist A2 stock and can't wait to get it back fitted with the CDI DBM.

I guess it's a good thing I don't have a 12fv.

Just a quick update. Still haven't ordered the stock as I've been trying to his my savings goal first. Barrel is at my Dad's house, scope still on backorder but we're getting close I'd guess as they charged my card. Now it's a matter of a base, rings, stock, and bipod. Then some reloading components but I'll probably just use what I have on hand for break in.
