I have an Early model 99 F, (1924 manufactured) with the Integral front sight....I believe it's known as the "short" version bead.

I just won a near mint Redfield 80-L aperture rear sight, and I'm not a fan of bead sights. I want a front blade sight that gives off a nice squared off crisp post, to work with the rear aperture sight. Did Savage offer a replacement blade front sight that I simply unscrew the bead, and pop in a squared blade? Here is the current front sight.

thanx Or do i need to get some sheet metal, and start cutting/filing?

Sorry for the late reply, I was offline for quite awhile due to personal issues. :(

FWIW

I just last week made a new/taller front sight blade for my ca.1914 Model 1899H with the integral front sight ramp.

It's issue pinned-in front sight blade reninded me of the similar replacement Lyman front sight blade for the US Springfield 1903/03-A3 rifles.

Soooooo, I googled the sight, and found & bought a NOS (New Old Stock) Lyman Springfield sight blade in it's original package for chump change.

The Lyman blade was a few thousandth's thin for the slot in my M-1899's ramp, but after I clamped it in place & drilled it (1/16" bit) through the old pin hole to accept the original sight pin, a very small (invisible after installation) shim alongside the base of the blade took up the slack.

I got the new front sight I wanted with very little effort & a few dollars.
