I just finished adding Rockite to the fore end and to the grip area of my Savage Axis. Beginning to think I might want to stick with that rather than step up right now for a Boyd's stock.

Wondering what the experience of others has been when painting the stock. What kind of prep work is needed to promote adhesion? Also, does the paint have a propensity to chip, exposing the black underneath? Other than Krylon or its equivalent, what paint works best.

Yeah I was thinking of adding a little camo to my stock. The green looks kinda plain

For the Axis stock I would just wipe it down with some rubbing alcohol and hit it with the krylon. If you were to try and sell it you might get all of $20 for it if you can find a buyer and krylon you can just continue to touch up now and then if it wears off at all.

When I painted my Axis last year I just wiped it down with mineral spirits, let that evaporate, then used Krylon. The comb is starting to wear through from my beard, If you do use Krylon I suggest a couple extra coats of clear.
