How common is .243 in PRS type matches? How available is factory match ammo?

Not very and most likely not much match ammo either...your better off hand loading or changing to a different cartridge if you want to shoot factory match ammo.

You won't find many options for factory Match. Copper Creek is about all I know. I reload all mine, but am on my 3rd barrel running 243 now.

The .243 is a good cartridge for PRS matches. I started using one in 2004 and still have one as an option but as mentioned I load my ammo. You will want a 105+ weight bullet. The 6mm Creedmoor has taken the 6mm top cartridge over the past few years but the .243 will still do the job as it will send the bullets out as fast an accurately as the other 6mms. Most matches limit to 3100-3150fps anyways. Factory .243 ammo is lacking though. If you want a factory round then go with the 6.5 Creedmoor.

And an honest follow up. I'm looking to switch to a new 6mm cartridge myself. If I started all over again I would be shooting either the Lapua or Creed 6mm case. It does seem that 6XC components are also very readily available, but 243 will get the job done if you reload!
