Hello All,

Based on the serial number (228751) I believe it was manufactured in 1920? Can someone help me with the model number please? Sorry about the not so great photos. It's in jail for the next 10 days but I can visit and take more if needed?

AFAIK:

If the barrel's 26" long, it should be a takedown a Model 1899B.

If the barrel's 22", the shotgun-butt should make it a Model 1899C.

If the barrel's 20" long, it should be a Model 1899F.

Below is a similar 1914 Model 1899H (solid-frame/non-takedown) with a 20" bbl, that I bought a few weeks ago @ a Cabela's.

PetahW,

The paperwork shows a 22" barrel, could that be incorrect? Serial number is 228751.

As I posted above, AFAIK the 22" bbl (if measured properly, down the bore from the muzzle to the face of the closed bolt,) & the takedown feature should make it a Model 1899D.

Your SN comes back as a 1920 vintage ( extrapolated as late 3rd to early 4th quarter).

Hopefully, maybe someone else here, with more Model 1899/99 experience, can help confirm my suppositions or post a different opinion.

PetahW,

Sorry, looking at the posting with my phone I somehow missed reading your posting about the 22".

Looks like another early version 99F off the bat.

Petah is getting confused on the difference between 99's and 1899's.

Mad Dog,

I purchased a copy of the Collector Guide by David Royal and after reviewing the different model criteria I agree that it is a 99F. I had to read the paragraph multiple times to identify it as an "F" model though someone else with more knowledge may correct me? At least I know it's a Savage 99 in 303 thanks to the stamping on the barrel:p
