I took out my newly acquired 6.5 Creedmoor over the weekend and did a little shooting and wasn't really impressed right off the bat. It took a couple of boxes of Hornady 129 gr SSTs down the tube to group into 1" MOA territory.
After I got into MOA groupings I took it out to 200, 300 and then 400 yards and it shot decently. I'm just curious if yall had the same performance with your rifles out of the box?

I have had a similar issue, but with even less desirable results. I started a thread that you can check out, and have gotten some good feed back and ideas. You may want to scroll through here, and look at some ofthe things people have proposed to me.

A few guys are really recommending the Tubb's Final Finish, fire lappingprocess. I haven't tried it yet, but I am strongly considering it.

JMHO...You seem to be expecting quite a lot from an "out of the box", "over the counter" hunting rifle? :-)

Welcome to the Forum :-)

I wasn't expecting perfection, after all like you said it was, out of the box. But I was getting 2-3" groupings for the first 20-30 shots, I've read about metal burrs in the barrel causing similar results, I've just never seen such a swing in performance in any Savage rifle I've owned before and I've got a .243, 25.06 and .308 in addition to the Creedmoor.
I am however happy that it finally moved in the right direction but I was puzzled to say the least in the beginning of my shoot.

Glad that it settled in for you :-)

Never had nearly the accuracy with the 129SST as I did with the Hornady 120gr Amax ammunition. Give it a try.

I have 5 boxes of the 120 gr Amax that will be here tomorrow, have you used them on Whitetail deer?

I have not.

Mine doesn't like the factory 140 or 143gr bullets (I've tried both the old 140 amax and new eld) and gets about a 2 moa group with either. I can generally get the 120 and 129 to group under 1 moa if I do my part though. The 129 sst is their hunting bullet, so is the 143 eld-x. If I were using it for hunting (illegal in my state) that's where I'd start. Honestly though, I'm going to start working up a load for the rifle soon and I'm confident I can get any bullet under 1 moa with the right load.

I don't reload so I'm trying to decide what ammo I want to stock up on, I've always shot the SSTs because I'm a deer hunter but I've also killed Deer with the 6.5 Grendel 123 gr Amax with good results.
But the Grendel is only moving at approximately 2500-2600 fps and I'm not sure if the extra velocity will be a problem or not. I've read good and bad reviews on them out of the Creedmoor.
