Bit confused by your situation. Do you have a factory sporter barrel or heavy barrel? The pro varmint stock is already made for a heavy varmint contour barrel. Are asking so you can add a heavy barrel to your existing Axis?

The boyds thumbhole can accommodate a varmint barrel. I have opened up several of the thumbhole stocks and have yet to have any issues

The Classic, Prairie Hunter, and Featherweight Thumbhole have the finger grooves that make them bad candidates for HB rifles.

It would be nice if Boyds offered a classic design for the varmint/heavy contour for us old(er) traditional farts.

The Platinum is the same design as the Classic but with an oval forend. The same can be said about the Heritage and the Prairie Hunter.

and I have opened up dozens of light thumbholes. They work just fine.
