Well I have started my first savage build..
Taken me a long time to figure out what I wanted to do.. Wanted a good caliber for long range target and some hunting so it's going to be a 6.5x284

Scored a 116 center feed 30-06 at a pawn shop that was in really good shape for a good price. Has accutrigger and bottom bolt release was hoping for a a top one but eh no big deal.

Called northland shooter supply and ordered short nut wrench, action wrench, nut, lug ,and talked quite awhile about barrels and James sold me on a Shilen varmit contour 26" in 6.5x284, so glad he had one in stock. Pretty much exactly what I was looking for.. Really wanted a 28" but this one will be easier to carry around hunting..

Do have a question on stocks though. I went with a Bell and Carlson medalist which no doubt I will need to remove some material from the barrel channel to get the varmit contour to fit.. Does the color of the stock go all the way through so if I dremel relief for the barrel is it going to be noticeable?

Pretty excited about bout this project..

If you are going to open up the stock barrel channel, I would recommend using a barrel-sized dowel wrapped with 80grit sandpaper.

Thank you, after some other reading that was what I was going to do.. Me and a dremel need to be limited lol.. I new that too, cause I did it on an old M70 that the barrel touched.. Does the berries inlet need sealed or painted after sanding?
