Hi I'm new to site forgive any ignorance but I can't find anywhere specifically about caliber swap options so I'll give a question and need an intelligent answer....I own a savage 110...original model no accutrigger and has same stock as stephens 200...it's chambered in 270 win. ...is it true all savages are either lomg or short action and what calibers can I step up to without taking away from gun....300 win mag...7mm rem mag..30.06 I know I can switch to because of same Bolt face...can I switch to 300 win mag and use same bolt...is it as simple as slapping a magnum barrel on other than 338..specifics and help would be appreciated....

You can use the same bolt body ,but you will need to change bolt head for the mags, 30.06 your good to go with only a barrel change

Out of the calibers mentioned the 30/06 is the only one that matches your current bolt face. You would have to get a .540 bolt face to step up to a mag caliber.

Look under the FAQ section of this site, there is a list labeled "What Fits What".

is it true all savages are either lomg or short action Yes, this is true except for the Precision Target Actions.

The 270 has a .473 bolt head, we refer to it as the 308 family.

A 300 Win Mag takes a .532 bolt head.

If your asking if you can take your 270 barrel off your rifle, and replace it with a Magnum barrel, 300 Win Mag, 7mm Mag, NO, you cannot just swap barrels. The bolt head must be changed to a .532.

If you have further questions, just ask.

There is info regarding what type of actions Savage has built under the FAQ as well. As far as what is required to swap out he bolt head may be as simple as "swapping out he bolt head" but it depends on the age of the rifle. I'm sure you know that you will need a set of Go and NoGo gauges for the cartridge you select. Oh yea, you will need tools too, (barrel nut wrench, barrel vice and/or action wrench).

30-06 is the smaller bolt face I know this because I'm swapping a 7mm Mag face to a 30-06 and I can't find the right one Mine is an E series
