I just realized I made an error in line 2 of the loads. I was using 23.7 of the IMR4895 for the Hornady 60gr bullets.
Sorry, I need to learn how to type.

Lol. Happens. Anyone ever use bsa scopes?

Hi Jammer, I have had experience with the BSA scopes. I am ok with the one I use on my Ruger 10-22 but for anything with the type of distances you want I'd definitely get some feedback on better manufacturers. The numbers of options can be maddening, but the magnification and quality of the glass will make you crazy if you cheap out on the scope. Do your homework on a few Nikon, and other mid-range priced scopes probably up to 16X and see what the 'User Reviews' are. I have used Millet scopes also, and they are not too bad for the price. You will thank yourself in the long run if you do your homework.

i really like the .223rem for its inherent accuracy and super soft recoil. a great "lazy man's" rifle (whence compared to anything firing black powder). i slightly tricked out an axis .223 hb with rockite in both the fore and butt stocks, put a half pound of lead in the butt stock tubes, installed a basix trigger set to about 1#, pulled the mag and installed a single feed chamber ramp, clipped on a champion bipod, clamped down a mueller 8-32x44 side focus scope. but THE most important item is all about the cartridge. getting into loading is a lot cheaper in the short run than buy factory rounds, and will be more accurate ... sierra match king 69 grain bullets over varget powder works best for my rifle.

Hi Jammer, One other thing to consider. I have been told and this has been backed up by other forum members that for longer distances and higher bullet weights, that you usually need a tighter twist. This could be from 7-8 twist in order to work with higher weights. I have a 9 in mine on a Model 12 BVSS. I am probably good to 300 yds but if I try beyond that I was told the twist rate is more important.
Please keep that in mind.

Thanks. I plan to buy different brands and weights. Start small and work my way up. Get the fundamentals down and then go further. I'm not expecting moa at distance but able to ring a 12" gong at 680.

My brother in laws dad (wife's sisters husband) said he'd sell me a model 12 with a 26in bull barrel in 223 for.....350. There's a scope on it but not sure on brand and if it's included. Wish I would have known that b4 I got the axis. But it's gonna have to wait. Any day now I'll have a brand new baby girl. Priorities suck lol

I asked and he said he'll think about it. Either way I pay for it and keep the axis or I trade and have a better platform. I plan to prairie dog hunt next summer too.

Well I have a bone stock Savage Edge clambered in .223 topped with a Leopold VX-3 4.5-14x40 that will put 3 55gr V-Max reloads through the same ragged hole at 100 yards!
It has dropped a coyote at 335 yards.
It has banged steal at 400 yards and really think I could push it a bit further with a bit more time and a heavier bullet.
I don't shoot factory ammo much but here is a 100 yard group with some Hornady 55gr V-MAX.

That's a nice group. I was planning on trying them. Been too cold and windy lately plus gone most of the week for work. Those go for 30-34 a box of 50 I think where I live.

I have a friend that has the Axis 223 with accutrigger and he was using cheap Federal M193 55 gr fmj and it was shooting as well as my 6.5 Grendel AR out to 300 yards. To say I was amazed would be an understatement.

I'm excited to try it with good ammo. If I don't trade it im still ahead.

Is the Axis a 1-9 twist? My 16" AR 15 likes the Hornady 75 gr match but it's a 1-7 twist, like someone said earlier you're probably going to have to stay with a 69 gr max. The 62 gr Fusions also should work very well but each gun is different.

If you're just plinking I'd stay with the Federal or PMC, for serious business/hunting I'd use the Fusion 62 gr or Barnes TSX, but they're more expensive. Like someone said earlier try out the Federal 50 gr varmint loads.

Well I need a bipod and more trigger time measures 3" was on a rock while sitting. About 100 yards http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn5/joshawalister91/Mobile%20Uploads/20160521_203946_zpsqo0lrfeq.jpg (http://s300.photobucket.com/user/joshawalister91/media/Mobile%20Uploads/20160521_203946_zpsqo0lrfeq.jpg.html) tulammo

As for the bipod I would recommend you check out the support systems from Vanguard Outdoors. I have a couple and I am extremely impressed with them.
As for the group, I think you just need better ammo! 👍

I agree. I had it on hand from a plinking session and never grouped it. Now I just need to get my mosin that's scoped sighted in and group that.

it's really all about the cartridges and the 1:9 axis .223rem twist will easily handle sierra match king 69 grain bullets ... that's all i use.
