I don't know if this is the right place to post this?
Anyway after having a lot of trouble setting the head space on my 6.5-284 I have more questions than answers now.
To start with I think I finally got the head space on it set right but there is a lot of difference between book numbers and my gauges and factory ammo? So I then started checking some other rifles, 2, 260's and a AR10 in 308. The go-gauge is a 308 that I use for all 3 rifles and it reads 1.623 and it is almost .007 to short for the 260's and in the AR10 it won't go into battery. All three rifles are set at factory and shoot fine with factory or reloads. So what's right? Book says that both calibers should be 1.634 to the datum line using a .400 comparitor. So is there something I'm missing?

Maybe I'm reading your post wrong...but, are you using the .308 go gauge to check headspace on the .260 and the 6.5-284?

Thumper76 (http://www.savageshooters.com/member.php?29778-Thumper76), No. I just mentioned the 6.5-284 as that's what I had been having issues with. I used a .284 gauge

I used the .308 gauge on the AR10 308 and on the 260's just out of curiosity and was kind of amazed with the numbers on factory rifles.

Okay, I knew I had to be reading that wrong.

My Forster 243-260-308 GO Gage is stamped 1.630 and that's what it actually measures.
