My First attempt at Fclass

I am more of a varmint hunter and hate driving 5 hours to a match, so I found 3 other shooters that we are going to ride together, and really rag on the one with the worst score on the way back. Should be fun unless you are the guy with the worst score.LOL

For those interested in the specs.
Savage Precision Target Action timed and trued with an 8oz trigger.
The stock is a Richard micro fit that has been bedded and the channel opened up.
The scope is a Konus 10 X 40 -50 with Burris rings that have 20MOA inserts in them.
The barrel I have three depending on the venue and distance 6BRX, 260AI, 308Match.

Nice Dean. It will be cool to see how things turn out for you. The X ring is a bit smaller than them P-Dogs though! Have fun and keep your eyes on the wind flags!

Tell us all about it when you get home Dean. My bet is your eyes will be tired if you put the zoom on more than 16X.

be careful....its addictive and you already have a gun building habit.

a couple of suggestions....
a light trigger...10oz or less...
if your going to shoot off the bags in the pic dump the crap in them out and fill them with sand...
and as RH said i think your eye is going to fatigue pretty quick especially if you plan to shoot the 1k matches...
also(and just a personal preference)you may want to get a 1pc base and some better rings...

I am going to do a few 600yds matches first, there is a 800yds place that is going to host a match, it's not 1000yds but 800yds still needs your full attention.
The trigger is set at 8oz so that's good.
I do want to get better rests eventually, but I first want to see how this pans out before I invest anymore. But will dump the media that is in them and replace it with sand.
Is there something I don't know about these Burris rings, I have had nothing but great results with them.

check grizzly for rests they have them on sale all the time...good trigger weight...and im not sure about the rings as ive never used them but ive seen issues with the 2pc bases...if your having good results with that set up then run it..for me its just more of a personal preference.

Long Range is dead on. The trigger is the SSS and the scope... one with a great eye relief and exit pupil. Otherwise you will tire from stay in the eye box. For the money the Sinclair bipod is the way to go in F/TR

That and a full case of RL17.

Dean just be careful with your hot loads. The match may have you shooting faster than normal causing more barrel heat than you're used too!

a full case of RL-17 should put you around 3200 but its gonna be hard on the brass...RL-19 RL-22 or RL-25 will do the same with a little less pressure...with RL-22 and 25 you can save a lot of time by dumping it in a bowl then just scoop the case full scrape off the excess and seat your bullets LOL!!

buy a timer and use it to slow yourself down some i shoot a 22-250 sometimes in our unlimited class and we shoot 45 rounds in 40 minutes so i time it after sighters to shoot one ever minute unless the wind condition is perfect then i let it rip. also shoot your conditions i see so many people try and hold off this way and that way instead waiting for the right condition (thats where the timer comes in ) .

How was your experience with Richards micro fit stocks? I was considering getting one of their stocks but didn't after i read a few reviews online.

I am not going to kid you it needed some work, so did every stock I have ever bought needed some work no matter what brand, nothing ever fits when dealing with customs. everything needs tweaking IE: stocks, barrels, actions, triggers, As long as most of the work is done I can figure out the rest.

If your looking for a stock you can finish at your kitchen table while enjoying your morning coffee,
then don't buy a Richards stock.
They do require work, but when finished they are head turners.
