Is the extra magnification worth an extra $1000 for the gen 2 razors? I am comparing the 5-20 to the 4.5-27 moa model.

There is more than magnification difference between the Gen I and Gen II Razor scopes. The glass is better on the Gen II. Locking knobs as well and different reticles. Also a 34mm tube on the Gen II which offers more mounting options. The Gen II is a better all around scope and that is why it's more money. Not just the 7x magnification. If you can swing the extra money then go with the Gen II. Also if you shop around and call the companies selling them you can get them for less than $2499. I have had friends get theirs for around $2200-2300.

Yep agreed on the Gen 2. About the only thing that would make it better is if it were a bit lighter, but then you'd be removing features. I shot 6mm out to 1375yds and could distinguish and adjust off my impacts with it to get on target. This is misses in the dirt and impacts on steel.

That's my one gripe with my Gen II... It's a heavy pig of a scope.

But other than that, the glass quality, features, etc. are right up there with NF... and so is the price, lol.

The Vortex Razor II weighs 48 oz., or 3 lbs! I haven't gotten to look through one. I am carefully considering getting it as my 3rd scope for my 3 rifles. It will be going on an M1A Superrmatch. I already have the rifle assembled and the Sadlak scope rail mounted.

The Gen IIs are massively popular in PRS matches at this point. Mine is hosted on a .338 Lapua that weighs probably 20 lbs. without a scope, so the ~10-12 oz. that I'd save with a NF are negligible. It'd be a very good option for your M1A Supermatch though - just don't expect it to be the lightest thing in your safe.

The only time the Geb II may be an issue is if the weapon you're mounting it on is real light and has a narrow stock which would make for a rather top heavy weapon system you may have issues with keeping stability without a wider foot print bipod.

I swapped out S&B 5-25s with the Razor II and didn't feel the difference in the 10 ounces when the scopes were mounted. Yes it's heavy and not made for a light weight hunter but on the rifles that wear the other similar weight and power range optics you won;t feel the difference once mounted. People get scared away by the 48 ounce number and they shouldn't when mounting the scope on the right system.

This is exactly why when shooting at game animals, using a person as a spotter using good optics is imperative.
Otherwise its like driving without headlights.

I just spent the last month trying to buy a gen 1 and let me tell you, there's no way to get one from any of the major online sites until mid to end of summer. I ended up switching last week to a NF nxs due to this, will be at my door tomorrow.

Just letting you know what you are in for.

Primary Arms also has a new 6-30x56 coming out in May. I'm interested to see how it does.
