JCalhoun,

Are you still a strong advocate of the 6.5 x 284 for long range accuracy competition and ease of loading ?

I am. The only thing that scares people is the short life of a 6.5x284 barrel. I had the privilege of shooting with "John Brewer" who loves a 6.5x284. Because of him, I have tried one. Awesome round, very little recoil, and will send your bullet down the line quick and straight.

If you chamber your blank to make sure you have enough to set it back around 900 rounds, you will get another 700 to 900 rounds out of the barrel. John Brewer told me he does this. I did understand he will only use a set back barrel in a local match. On national matches he want's a new fresh barrel.

Most of the 284 shooters around here have switched to the 7mm SAUM and like the 284 they are just stupid accurate flat shooting easy to load for and WAY better barrel life.

The 6.5*284 brass is also a bit soft in the heads.
