Info on 12 btcss

Looking for some reveiws on the savage 12 BTCSS. Been looking at this rifle for sometime now and thinking about buying one just looking for some info from owners of this rifle. Looking at the 223 for its wide section of ammo/bullets. I'm just starting to get into reloading but for now most my ammo will be factory loads. How do you like the 1.9 twist 26" barrel and what grain bullet does it like the best? How does the thumbhole stock fit and feel when shooting the gun on a bipod or bench? The local range is 200yrds looking for a nice bolt action for bench rest shooting to give my buddy AR a run for his money. The gun will also sometimes see some action shooting coyotes on my uncle farm.

The 12FV is way cheaper, bughole accurate too, but it is nevertheless a bottom basement gun, nothing like the BVSS or BTCSS. My BVSS in 223 has about 4000 rounds through it and is still more accuract than I am capable of. It's a 9 twist and not fond of anything heavier than 69 grain, but will shoot up to 75gr HPBT with the right load of Varget, just not bughole accurate. Some here are able to shoot even heavier/longer bullets with a their 9 twist, probably due to slight variations in actual twist rates of production barrels. Mine might actually be a 9 1/4 or 9 1/2 twist which would explain it's disdane for heavier bullets.

For off the shelf ammo, I find American Eagle 50 gr tipped varmint to be extremely accurate and consistent, and most of all cheap.

BTW, any model 12 has a $100 rebate right now, so an FV can be had for less than $300 after rebate, depending upon what market you live in. That leaves a lot of coin on the table for aftermarket stocks, optics, rings and bases.

I purchased the BTCSS in 223 in November 2015 and you have made a great choice. Mine is under 1 MOA at 200yds. And under 1/2 MOA at 100yds. With a Vortex 6-24x50 PST FFP, using a harris bipod and monopod. After the initial break in process and about 50 rounds I did have a problem with the mag feeding a round, (see my previous post) I sent the rifle back to Savage and they fixed it with no questions, and it now operates fantastic. I shoot Hornady 55gr HPBT off the shelf and it eats them very well. With most any shooter it will eat any AR at the range in accuracy. Enjoy your rifle.

I have and it is a nice gun. I was at the local range today and the guy in the lane next to us let me shoot his savage model 25 Lightweight Varminter-T in 22 hornet I really liked its thumbhole stock.

Brown thumbhole laminated stock under it for $169, http://www.eabco.net/Savage-Thumbhole-Varmint-Stock-by-Revolution_p_14233.html, a Vortex Crossfield II 6-18 X 44 scope for $240 ( I think) and it has an illuminated reticle, an EGW 20 moa mount for $40 and medium rings for another $25. Total investment less than $750.
