Good evening,

Went and and picked up the latest addition the other day. It's a 110L in 243, short action, 17,10X serial with a J code on the barrel. I'll add a scope and try to find a front sight base. Eventually I'll get it out to the range to see how an old Savage runs.

A 110 J series in 243 was the first Savage I ever bought, and that was in 1974 at a PX in West Germany. Brought it home in my duffle bag. Try that now days. I still have it, and it will never go. The rifle is still very accurate. Good luck on yours.

That is an odd bird. My next door neighbor has one, also in left hand .243, and I have a long action left hand first generation that has been rebarreled to .25-06, but without the rear sight boss and it is nutless. What are the odds that two of those left hand, first generation Savages would reside next door to each other?

LOL If I remembered, I would. I doubt it was anywhere close to $200 though. Here's a pic of it after I refinished it and added a forend tip.

Only bad is it's RH and I am LH. But hey, when I was a kid they didn't make many LH baseball gloves so I played RH. I can shoot just as well either way, so it is a keeper. Ha, first deer I shot in CA was with this rifle. It was wearing a 308 barrel at the time though. Back to factory 243 barrel now. In fact, all my Savages are now wearing their factory barrels. Funny how that works out.

I think I added the recoil pad too, can't remember now.

Not sure why the "J" is on it but the serial number puts it at 1959.

This is the rifle I learned to shoot with... out of all of the rilfes I ever shot and own/ed, it is by far the best grouping rifle out to 200 yards. I have shot and killed 3 deer and 4 elk on this rifle, my dad has cover a dozen kills on this rifle (as its his rifle).
Its actually this platform that turned me on to getting a Savage rifle for myself, and now looking at a few more to turn into special build rifles.
