hi folks
i am looking at takeing my savage model 11 in 308 win and converting it to 223 rem. except for changing the barrel what else will have to be done to the rife to make it work. keep in mind its a detach box mag gun.
New bolt head, and I'm not familiar with the 11 but I'm sure it might be as simple as a .223 magazine.

Is it a short action 308 or long action, internal or bdm clip

The model 11 is a short action. (caliber doesn't matter.)
If it has a internal mag or a detachable, it doesn't matter it is the same action. The difference is the cap on the mag, and the extra parts for the DBM. The problem would arise depending on if it is a stagard feed or a center feed.

Stagard feed detachable magazine would be a problem.
You could still shoot the 223 but it would have to be single shot. To get the magazine working you would have to find a old stagard feed 223 magazine, about the only place I know that may have them is Numrich, or Savage.
