Wanting to see if anyone has had any luck with heavy bullets in 223 with this powder. I have a 26" tube 1-8 varmint barrel. Wanting to load 75 amax and 80 smk had good luck with 69 smk in my AR burns clean and I have a lot of this powder. I know it's a little fast for these bullets what everyone's thoughts?

When I had my AR15 18" 223 wylde 1:8.5"...
The Nosler Custom Comp 77gr hpbt / otm performed extremely well with 22.7gr of powder. Chronoed at 2586fps, 12.7 sd.
I expected 0.5 moa from that load.

I believe I could go up or down 0.1gr without a huge difference in accuracy. Maybe not the widest load window.

As always, start low and work up.

I would suspect that the 75AMax or 80SMK would both work well with this powder.

23.2 gr seems to be the magic load for High Power shooters for 77 and 80 gr. Accurate in my Rock River NM with no pressure signs.

I shoot with a friend who swears XBR8208 is the best in his 223.

It's my favorite 5.56 powder for a 77gr SMK!! This is a few days ago:

I shoot .223 Berger VLD 80gr bullets from my 1:7 twist F/TR gun. Results from IMR 8208 XBR and Vihtavuori N-140 are pretty much a toss up, both regularly producing five shot groups near 1/4 MOA.

In my .223 Howa-1500 1:9 twist "fun gun" I exclusively shoot 69gr Sierra Match King bullets with IMR 8208 XBR. It almost never shoots worse than .5 MOA and nearly always produces at least one sub 1/4 MOA 5 shot group during a morning session at the range. The fact that it doesn't shoot heavier bullets quite as well is a problem of the slow twist short barrel, not because of the powder.

23.5-23.8gr under a 77gr bullet will replicate 5.56 Mk262 velocity, but with better accuracy.

XBR gets peaky with pressure near max charges when temperatures warm up, however…learned that using it in my 223AI with 80gr Amax. It isn't temp sensitive like a ball powder, but it isn't quite Varget either.
