I picked up a box of the 220gr. ELD-X today to try out in my 300 winmag and since I won't be able to load them for a couple of weeks I thought maybe I would see what kind of results others are having and what kind of load data, if any, other shooters may be willing to share. I'm shooting a Savage 111 trophy hunter in 300 winmag 1:10 twist and 24" barrel. Thanks for the help

Haven't tried the new 220.... But I've been having good luck with the 212 and H1000, but I have a 27" barrel for the slow burning powders and heavy bullets.
Honestly, if my gun still had your 24" sporter barrel on it, I would be trying the 200gr ELD-x and H4831 (or similar)
Not sure what kind of velocity you'll be able to achieve with the 220 in a 24" but I'd be interested in hearing your results

I was looking for the 212gr ELDX with no luck so when I came across the 220's i grabbed them figuring I would give them a shot. Hopefully with any luck I can get a good load established. I just flew back to work today so I won't be able to work on it for the next 2 weeks.

I was finally able to get some time to load some of these 220gr ELDX for my 300 winmag and hit the range today. I was loading all of these loads using Hornady brass and WLRM primers. I started with 61.5grs of H4350 and worked up to 65grs in half grain increments. I loaded 3 rounds per charge weight. My best load came in at 64.5grs with a velocity of 2727fps. and a group size of 0.842" @100yds. I was also able to load a few with IMR7828SSC. 3 rounds with 70grs and 3 rounds with 70.5grs of IMR7828SSC. I had an average velocity of 2867fps with the 70.5gr charge and a group size of 1.25" @ 100 yds. I'm hoping that by playing with seating depth I can tighten that one up a little bit. My c.o.a.l was 3.480" to still fit in my magazing.

Using 220 Nosler Cust. Comps. in my 300 I used Retumbo & N570 (Viht - $$$$) in the upper ranges - around 78.0 to 80.0gr.

Ya know what I would do?

Magnum caliber / heavy long bullet = slow burning powder & lots of it.
