im going to go 26 and see how it all works out...if its front heavy ill have jack cut it down to 24 and see how that works.
i think my biggest problem is going to be my left shoulder as i lost a lotta range of motion after surgery...if its a problem ill start stretching it out...i might need to loose a few lbs as well and maybe start exercising and a little cardio....this is turning into work now.

I have never had surgery, my right one used to pop out when I wrestled. If I sleep funny it feels like my arm is gonna fall off. Maybe gonna have to start hunting with me then. Try to scare up some coyotes. Hunting around here is work disguised as fun.

text me when you head out tomorrow...if its raining and windy like their calling for in the morning i might not go to the match because i doubt anyone else will show up...im going to email scotty and see if they are going regardless of weather...last years first match was in a foot+ of snow and still snowing.

Will do. Gonna charge up 25 rounds tonight for heat break in, sight in and verify my scope is level. I want to be out of the house no later than 9 so I don't have to deal with the yocals drinking beer and spraying dirt.

Lol...I talked to Scotty and the match is on no matter what so it's going to be a wet windy miserable one...I already know but let me know how it shoots.

well its finally done but with a few changes to the original specs....

specs when done...
surgeon 591 repeater
Jewell HVR trigger set to 10oz to 1lb
XLR chassis
1 10 round AICS mag and 1 5 round AICS mag...2 10 round alpha 2 mags thanks LW
folding tactical butt stock
atlas bipod
vortex gen2
ARC M10 rings
first barrel will be a 26" heavy varmint Kreiger....i went 24" after getting my sling and playing around with it on my savage...its a lot easier to get into positions and WAY better balanced...
second barrel will be a 26" heavy varmint bartlein...24"

i also changed my mind at the last minute about the muzzle break...i just finished getting it put together and set up...ill be out early tomorrow morning for break in and an OCW though ive already shot some of the 130g berger hybrids so ive got a good idea of where to start...brass is all fully prep'd,fire formed, annealed and FL sized so this will be an easy load development with this rifle...

tomorrow morning...i moved the cheek piece and the scope forward set the LOP at 14 3/4" and it feels perfect...it also feels a lot lighter but i think it because its so much better balanced...also the jewel is set to 1lb and while i love the SSS comp trigger in my savage the jewel feels like its set in the low digit OZs when comparing...the scope sets so low to the rail i can just get the butler creek cap on but not all the way...very impressed with every thing at this point.

If it shoots as good as it looks, you've done well.

How long was the wait for the Surgeon and what made you choose it over Defiance, Big Horn, etc.?

Nice rig by the way!

Nice rig by the way!

its only took about 5 days as you can find the surgeons in stock...i shot/cycled a deviant and they are nice but a little to tight...it may have been the cerakote as i know you can order them with a little more clearance for paint but the one i shot was tight and sticky plus they are hard to find...the big horns..also nice but i dont care for the bolt on rail...i wanted a mausingfield but hes several month out and i may order one at the end of this year.

the surgeon is a very nice action and it was readily available.

FIRST 69 ROUNDS DOWN THE BARREL!!

so i got out this morning and did my little break in and shot an OCW...the first 2 rounds copper fouled pretty heavy...took 15 patches for #1 and 12 patches for #2 so i wasnt real happy at that point..i then shot 11 rounds and cleaned and only got 2 VERY light blue patches the 3rd was clean..had me worried for a second LOL...heres the 11 shot group which was way to slow at 2735 to 2752 but i was pretty happy with the group as it was the first 13 rounds outta the barrel...

oh and the wind has been blowing 20+mph ALL DAY...

this was the first OCW i shot and wasnt real impressed to say the least...i chrony'd 1 round from each charge weight to get an idea of velocities from 43g H4350 up to 45g...i seated the 130g berger hybrids .030 off the lands...velocities were from 2788 to 2950 with this OCW...i didnt write on the target because theres nothing worth wasting time on...i was having a bad morning BEFORE seeing this LOL...note i shot the wrong target at some point...2 in #5 and 4 in #7....

http://i1239.photobucket.com/albums/ff515/LTT-/Mobile%20Uploads/1458509826.jpg (http://s1239.photobucket.com/user/LTT-/media/Mobile%20Uploads/1458509826.jpg.html)

after the above i loaded up 32 rounds 20 of which were to find a better seating depth and 12 for a mini OCW from 45.3g H4350 up to 46.2g as i had no OBVIOUS pressure signs at 45gs...and pretty obvious they like being closer...

heres the mini OCW with all the bullets seated at .020 off the lands...and this made me happier LOL...wind was blowing 20-30mph at this point...

so it looks like between 45gs and 45.6gs is where im going to be working which should put me right about 2960-3000fps...i didnt chrony any of these because the magneto speed was throwing everything about 2" high when i chrony"d rounds earlier but i already have an idea of where im at from the earlier tests.

the bad part is that being closer to the lands may be causing some feeding issues...im not sure if the follower in the alpha 2 mags are hanging up or if the tips are hanging up on the bottom of the receiver either way its a pretty simple fix.

on a side note i played around with my sling in between shots and ive got a LOT of practicing to do and some adjusting to do to the rifle.

LR, your mag may not feed it but try running .010" off the lands. 142 smk in my 260 and 300 smk in my 338 prefer to be that close. The longer shouldered (tangent ogive) bullets prefer that in my experience. The secant ones like amax and what not seem to treat me better at .020" off

Trying to avoid the 140s 142s if I can...I'm going load up some dumbys that would be touching the lands, feed them and work with the alpha mags first...I think the follower is hanging up because twice today I dropped the mag and the tip was down both times...I have 2 alphas and only tried one today.

I have 2 AICS mags but at mag length I'm .060 off the lands so I'm also going to try to find a load at .060 off the lands...my reamer has to much free bore for a mag feed rifle so next month I'm going to order a new reamer to the same specs but with only .100 free bore...if I can't get things working I'll have the smith re-chamber the barrels.

if you look at the 130g Berger hybrids they have a .584bc from 2500 to 3000 at 3000+ they are .614...they are 10gs lighter and give up nothing to the 140g class bullets out to 1200-1400yds.
i shot 25 of the 130s in my savage and at 2930-2940 (tel:2930-2940) I had 2moa less drop at 550yds compared to the 140g Berger hybrid at 2870 so theres a method to this madnes lol...plus this is the first mag fed rifle I've put together so it's a learning curve.

i know the 130s are going to shoot I just need to make them feed reliable.
