Hi All,

My name is Jacob and I'm relatively new to the shooting sports, having shot for only about 5 years.

Nothing competitive, just recreational.

I'm building a budget long-ish range rifle (500-800 yards) so I can take a class with my father at some point in the near future.

This looks like a great forum with a ton of information, so I cant wait to delve into the details over the next few months.

Thanks for having me!

Edit: Some other things about me are that I will be graduating soon with a Mechanical Engineering degree (Go Hawks!) and am also a reloader of 45ACP and 223 when I can make it back home on the few breaks over the year. I like to tinker with just about anything and Im glad to be representing the (possibly few) shooters from the Hawkeye State.

Thanks drybean, glad to be here.

I'll have to do a little more research on which components to use for my 308. I'm looking to stick to under $1500 for all of it, so it can be a little difficult to do that and still get quality components.

So far, the build is as follows:

Savage FCP-SR 24" 308
Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16x42mm
Weaver 20 MOA Base
Weaver 6-Hole Low Rings
DIY Cheek Riser

So far with trading in a couple 22's and finding the scope for a steal ($480) im into the rifle itself for about $900. Not to mention the case and some tools to mount the scope correctly ;)

I get that its a process though, and one that has been in motion for me since the end of summer last year. I'm hoping to have it completed by June of this year so we'll see.

Still needed are the following components:
Vortex AntiCant Level
Surefire 3P Eliminator Flash Hider
Harris S-BRM Bipod 6-9"
Butler Creek Scope Caps
Sling
.....
And a lot of range time

Go Hawks!

Let's hope Fran and the Boys can get things back on track after the losses the past couple of weeks.

Shoot, I sure hope so. They haven't looked so good as of late. Maryland did also lose to Minnesota tonight though...

Thank god the Wisconsin game next week is a home game! That one will be a real test.

Look tired. Lots of parity in college ball, but still shouldn't be losing games like that at the end of the Big season.

WI game will be big. As a Hawkeye living in the heart of Badger country I hope they throttle 'em good!

Parity there is! Especially this year!

I wish I could be at that game, however, I have an evening test that night. I'll be heading to the bars afterwards to hopefully catch whatever is left of the game!

Go Hawks!
