I finished a reinventing of a model 110 that was wearing a Savage barrel rechambered in .243AI and a Bushnell Banner 6-24x40 scope. The updated model sports a Shilen SSM Ratchet rifled 4 groove in .243AI and a new Bushnell Elite 4200 6-24x40. I decided to try Bergers 6mm 105gr hunting VLD bullet. After a very little preliminary load development I decided to load 10 up and see how they performed on some woodchucks. The load is 46grs of Reloader 17 (my new favorite powder), CCI 250 primer, Lapua brass and the Bergers. Chronographed vel. is 3350fps.

Some pics,

A typical sight around here lately, setting up to fracture a natural gas well

A trophy shot

Some kills, yardage varied from 50-275 yds tonight. I'd have to say the Bergers appear to be very effective.

What twist does that thing have?

It's an 8 twist.

I've only got 41 rounds down it after last nights hunt(9 for 9 on the woodchucks). I haven't even finished shooting up the Reloader 17 loads I developed. It was so hot yesterday while I was testing it was taking forever for the barrel to cool down. So I shot the hottest Rx17 load I brought and pressure was reasonable and grouping was good at 200 so I ran with it so I could get it out in the field.

That sure is a purdy stock... I'v been thinking about switching over the bergers since 105 A-Max are nowhere to be found. Do you like the performance of the bergers as well as the AMax on ghogs?

I would'nt post the pix if you shoot that puppy. Will likely upset the more tender hearted amungst us. ;D Bill

That is a really awesome looking rifle! What is the trigger setup on it?

Great shooting, great results :)

FatDaddy,

I don't have any experience with the A-maxs on woodchucks. Up until now I haven't had a 6mm with a fast enough twist to stabilize them so they've always shot poorly for me. I'm a huge fan of the 87gr V-max and have shot a few hundred ghogs with them with excellent terminal performance. The bergers performance seems to speak for itself. Maybe when the A-maxs become more available I'll try them again.

The stock is a Richards Microfit Tackdriver (modified slightly) in Tigerwood laminate.

The puppy is one that a client at the vet clinic my wife works at brought in and was going to have put down. It was on its death bed and they had $700 into it already and coudn't afford to invest any more so she brought it home and its pulling through. It's not likely to be shot any time soon.

DanSavage,

It's a Sharpshooter Supply trigger set as low as it'll go.
