Maybe a dumb question but how do you all feel about how an axis stacks up against say a model 12. I'm thinking of buying an axis so looking for opinion. Thanks

myself I look for a good rifle at a good price, the Axis fits that. you can always add more to it and have a great shooter for less $$ than a model 12
my axis .223 with a Boyd's thumbhole stock shoots 1" groups at 100yd , have not had a chance to try it farther
Have not shot my new Axis 22-250 HB yet.

I have an Axis in .243. It was easy enough to follow the helpful threads on the forum to put in a lighter trigger spring (didn't have to shim mine for side-to-side play). There is also help on here to firm up the stock. The one thing left that is bothersome is the "heavy lift" of the bolt. I checked out an Axis 11 yesterday and it felt like the bolt lift is not quite as heavy as the Axis 1. Axis 11 also has an accu-trigger and this is an improvement. Might be worth checking out an Axis and an Axis 11 side by side.

I still think Cabelas' 12FV is the best out-of-the-box deal out there right now. I love Axises, but mostly because I love to tinker with them.

Is there such a thing as an Axis II heavy barrel package?

Yes, as I recently learned! (http://www.sportsmansoutdoorsuperstore.com/products2.cfm/ID/165269) However, they seem to be a vendor-specific model, and not something a dealer could just order from a distributor.
