I think they are different as my axis 1 sport barrel has a longer stock than axis 2 HB.

There was a change in length of pull sometime in 2012 or 2013 (http://www.savageshooters.com/showthread.php?41058-Axis-Length-of-Pull&p=298432&viewfull=1#post298432) on the standard Axises.

Based on what I know about the Axis philosophy, I'd guess the stocks do interchange between Axises and Axis IIs, but I don't know it for sure.
