Everyone always wants to post up photo's of their best groups, but what about those great groups that were ruined by one stray shot that results in us cussing at ourselves and shaking our heads in disgust? Some people like to call them fliers, but the reality is the nut behind the trigger just wasn't quite tightened down on that one.

You really want me to use up that much space here?

I have targets from as far back as 2004. Most of them fit your criteria...

When I was loaded testing for my 6BR at 100 yards I was getting excited after the 1st 3 shots then the 4th shot played with me. Number 5 joined the 1st 3. I figured out it pretty much had to be me.

Happened to me yesterday. Was finally starting to gel with the rifle, with some new fire-formed reloads. First three rounds made one ragged hole. The second two dropped, and were almost completely overlapped.
I was swearing a bit, but it's still one of the best groups I've shot to date.

Savage MK-II 22LR

5 shots at 109 yards. Ammo was either Eley Match or RWS-50... Can't remember for sure but one of those 2.

For comparison, here is how it usually shoots at the same distance of 109 yards with the same ammo... four 5-shot groups...

I wish I had some of my Air Rifle printouts. I've had a couple ten shot strings that were 98/100... with an 8.

Here is an 8 shot group from my Savage 17HMR at 50 yards with the CCI 20gr Game point. I just put the gun down and didn't go for 10..

My buddy picked up a Model 12FV last week and shot it for the very first time today with factory Australian Outback 69gr SMK ammo. Scope is a Primary Arms 4-14 FFP, PA rings, Millett 20 MOA rail, Harris bipod knockoff. He made up for it with a .5 MOA group at 200 yards though. Actually I'm very happy with his shooting and only posted it here to razz him. Not half bad for an old blind guy! :crutch:

Went from a .27" to a .65"

For you guys fighting that flyer, have you cleaned and polished the inside of you bolt body, checked for rubs on your firing pin and insured it travels smoothly. Have you made sure your primers are seated firmly?

Bill

Years ago my son (now 55) bought a 6.5x 300 weatherby that had belonged to a deceased friend.
He got the dies also and when he loaded some and shot the gun that's what the target looked like.
I took a 6.5 bullet and dropped it down the barrel when he got back. It seems our friend had shot
the barrel out and sent it out to a guy by name of Vanpatten and got it bored to 7mm, but never remarked it.
My son already had a good 7x300 so he sold the gun. Reboring was quite common years ago, especially with long barrels
which were difficult to get.
