I just picked up a Savage model 12 in 22-250. I was looking at getting a Boyds thumbhole stock. It's a center feed model. I'm confused if I should get the bull barrel or the factory barrel stock? It has the factory barrel on it but the factory barrel is a "bull barrel" Just don't want to order the wrong one. Thanks for any help!

I tend to read factory barrel as meaning sportster.

On the Boyd's sight, they should have a couple barrel channel measurements listed for reference with each stock.

From 12 tbr blind centerfeed Bull barrel.
Barrel Dimensions: Point A = 1 5/16" and Point B = 1 1/16"

From 12 tbr blind centerfeed Factory barrel.
Barrel Dimensions: Point A = 1 5/16" and Point B = 3/4"

I would read Point B as being the barrel channel at the forearm.

So should I get a factory then? It's just a 12fvss with the factory barrel

Double check the stock length on Boyds.

Measure from your current recoil pad to that point on the barrel, and measure the diameter. I suspect that you need the bull barrel channel.

If you order with a bigger channel, you will have a bigger gap. If you order smaller, you will have a good amount of sanding to do.

You can save youself a bunch of work with this http://www.eabco.net/Savage-Thumbhole-Varmint-Stock-by-Revolution_p_14233.html

I just put one under a model 12FV. Drop in fit (I bedded it anyway) and comes with pillars installed and an extra action screw. Very nice stock.
