I'm looking to begin a 6BR build... more of just a barrel swap with my 204, and i had some basic questions-

The model 11 (currently chambered in 204) is small shank, right?

I hear its worth replacing the factory recoil lug with an aftermarket one... can anyone give a recommendation to brand?

What other problems may i encounter in the switch? I've read about the ejector releasing to early with the short case of the 6BR. Is this a big problem?

New bolt head info?

Thanks for the help,

Jake

Oh, also does anyone know a good bore guide for the model 11?

I recommend Mike Lucas Bore Guides. They are made for your chambering and excellent quality. Something like $40.00 +shipping, if I recall the cost of my last one I purchased.

I did a 6mm Norma BR build last year with a Lothar Walther barrel 1/8 twist. I couldn't be happier with it. Your short action M11 receiver is for small shank barrels. For a good recoil lug, I recommend Sharp Shooter Supply though you can get lugs through Midway and Brownells too.

I made my build a single shot for bench work exclusively so don't mind the casing staying in the action..............I pick out the fired case. You'll have to change out your .378" bolthead for a .473". Not hard to do (good info in the tech section to walk you through it). Fred at SSS can supply you with a BH and baffle and I'd recommend his single shot follower (if you want a dedicated bench gun). HTH

+1
The last Guide i ordered was in Nov. 2009. Bore guide, rod insert and shipping, $39.95. You will need to give him your mod. number, cal. and cleaning rod OD size. lucasmjb@windstream.net

+1 on Mike Lucas' bore guides and SSS recoil lugs.

Mike makes good reasonably priced bore guides. I ordered 3 from him. Each specific to the rifle and caliber. He let's you know when they will be ready, send payment when they're ready, and he sends them right out. I think I waited 2 weeks.

Kind of hard sometimes to get a hold of Lisa at SSS, but worth it. Phone's usually busy. Call early or late.

Bottom line...Great products and service at good prices.

Great, so the Mike Lucas it is.

I'm gonna be placing an order with midway, are their lugs of acceptable quality?

For 6BR, what lug thickness should i be looking for? (model 11).

HTH, if i remember correctly the bolt head doesn't come with extractor assembly or ejector- will the ones from my old bolt work in the larger BH or do i need a new set? (http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productnumber=451988),

Thanks
