Just a thought: with the 28" you may want to check your total weight. F/tr has a lower limit than F Open. (18.2 ??)
When I built a new wood stock for my F/TR .223 with 28" bull barrel, it came in at 17.9 when checked at a match.

My first question was "how much does that thing weigh???" I'm at 13# now, so I have 5# and change to play with, but yes: sage advice!

Pulled the trigger on this today. Should be here this week, when load development will begin!

Right now I'm having a hard time finding a place to regularly shot beyond 100 yards. I looked into Peacemaker but with my schedule id only be able to use the 1000 yd range once a month if I'm lucky. Im calling 340 Defense today to speak with them, they have 300 yard lanes. Right now I'm using the 100 yard indoor lanes at Elite shooting sports in Manassas. It's getting pretty expensive at $25/hr, I go probably two hours a week for practice. I just finished up a class at bangsteel.com and that was the first time I've shot beyond 250 yards. I'm trying hard to find some local private property to use regularly, and might have something lined up for up to about 300 yards. Just need this snow storm to melt and can go take a look.

Hey man I just moved to Springfield, VA and I'm also looking for places to shoot in the NOVA area. I'm hoping to check out the Quantico range one of these days. I'll let you know how it turns out. I've never shot any centerfire rifle matches but I'd like to get into one and see how it goes.

I plan on joining 340 Defense this spring, they are remodeling their 400 yard range. I'm interested in F-T/R and any paper punching beyond 100 yds. Let me know how quantico turns out, Ive never been.

i broke it doing
1 shot clean
1 shot clean
3 shots clean
then shot those in 5 shot clean after that i went to 300 yards and did 10 shots clean it rained so hard it ruined the fclass target i had set up for grouping .

You got a hammer there...I've shot out 5 shilen barrels and every one has produced groups like yours...great shooting.

Ive only had a chance to fire 10 rds looking for pressure signs. Got 30 rds whipped up for OCW and may have found a local property to get out to 900 yds. I'm thinking OCW results will be better monitored between 200-300 yds. After that Ill be on to depth adjustment but the 10 I shot so far at 100 yds were 1 ragged hole so harmonic interference is definitely reduced when barrel rigidity is increased. I'm curious to see what happens with OCW, as I have a feeling POI vs POA variance will be drastically reduced when compared to my OEM 20" light varmint contour barrel.

Shoot your OCW at 100yds you will get better data.

Interesting. Not doubting you at all, as your experience dwarfs mine. Any particular first hand experience would be appreciated, what have you noticed?

Shooting at 200+ yards can and will introduce to many other variables, wind and shooter to name a few...unless you are I very good shot and can hold extremely steady stick to 100yds your going to see what you need to there and when you find a load that shoots as good as you do or as good as you want it to shoot that load at 2-3-400yds and see how it holds up.

ive shot just about every kind of load development you can think of and can tell you if you follow the OCW to the T it's the fastest way to find a load...take your time and don't get in a hurry.

Gotcha. Id bet drop variance from charge to charge could be an issue as well at those distances. Good info!
