Our savage 99 in .308 caliber was purchased in 1958 (?). I would like to put a scope on the old rifle. What is the best option for mounting? I have seen people use the old weaver one piece but I can't find one for an old 99. Suggestions?

A 1958 99 should be factory drilled and tapped for regular scope mounts, I use old Redfield one piece mounts on those guns with usually a Redfield 3-9X Denver made scope.

If it's not factory drilled and tapped I'd go with a Stith scope set up so you don't ruin any of the collector value by having a smith drill it.

yes, it is drilled and tapped. I'll take your advice and use a one piece mount. Thanks for your reply.
