Savage 14 Two Piece Base?

Just got a new Savage 14 in 243 and got the Burris two piece base and found that the action is too long for my scope. When I mount the base and rings, they are spread two far apart for my scope tube to fit. I'm trying to use a Vortex Diamondback 3.5-10×50.

I don't want to use a one piece base, so can anyone help me with another two piece base that will work?

Can you reverse the one mount so that it hangs over the chamber? Or is it already?

Talley one piece ring mounts might work. If you want a two piece the Leupold system should work as well. I have used each on my 14 American Classics.

If the rings are directly above the holes in the action, then that's too far apart.

What if you buy the one piece and cut out the center section you don't need to make it a two piece?

You need extension rings.

With the Talley one piece ring mounts you can turn them so the rings are above the front or back holes. With the Leupold mounts the rear mounts hangs over the bolt a tad. Also leupold makes a one piece mount that a lot of Savage owners use. It bridges over the bolt opening. You can view them on Midway USA web site.

I ended up ordering the Talley mounts. I read the customer reviews and they said the standard size mounts didn't give much room, so I ordered the extended mounts.

In this day and age with everyone making scopes shorter and shorter you almost have to use a 1-piece base to get a scope mounted on a long-action. If you want to use 2-pc bases you'll want to hold off on purchasing a scope until you have the rifle and mounts and can measure exactly how much distance is between them, then tediously look at individual scope specifications to see if you can find one that has a long enough main tube to span the gap.

Why optic manufacturers can't offer more scopes with longer tubes to alleviate this problem is beyond me, especially now-a-days when most manufacturers aren't including open sights on their rifles anymore so a scope is mandatory.

I got the Talleys and scope mounted and it fits and looks perfect. I went ahead and ordered the extended version of the Talleys for long actions even though my gun is not a long action and I'm glad I did. I had a small amount of play in getting to position the scope forward and backward.

That looks very good. You have almost zero play between barrel and scope bell which is good. The zero play between scope and front mount can be a pain but if its giving you the right eye relief then you're gtg. ill keep those mounts in mind im glad to see they worked for you.

Those are Talley Lightweight mediums with a 50mm objective scope. I wanted it right on top of the barrel because the stock has a low comb and I needed the scope as low as possible.
