My son-in-law passed away and he had quite a number of firearms. My daughter has given some to her son and grandson and is keeping several and needs to sell the others.
One of those that she wants to sell is a Model 99(no letter after it) in 250-3000 cal.. The S/N is 6626XX. I have owned guns since I was eight years old but never a Model 99. This is in what you could safely say a 95% condition.
I need to know how you tell if it is a take down model, the date of manufacture and the approximate value. On the barrel it says Chicapee Falls Mass.
Any info would be very much appreciated.

It was made in 1953 and is either a model R or a model EG. The EG will have a schnobel tipped forearm.

In that caliber and that condition I wouldn't take anything less than $750-$800, 250 Sav draws a premium and you have the condition there.

One more thing, could someone tell me to determine if it is a take down model.

If it's a take down there will be a latch on the forend. The latch will release the forearm from the barrel much like an over/under type shotgun. If the forearm is held to the barrel by a screw/bolt it is not a takedown.
Hope that helps you out.

They did not make takedowns in the fifties.
