Thread pitch for muzzle break?

I am sending my barrel to get threaded and don't know what thread pitch to get?

I see that there are way more then 1/2 by 28. I think that's what the AR is anyway.

A lot depends on the caliber of the barrel....

1/2-28 will work fine for that caliber but the general rule of thumb is to use the biggest thread size your particular barrel will allow. For instance if you have a varmint weight barrel a 5/8-24 would probably work better and still allow plenty for blending or tapering to the barrel.

On a 6.5 CM I would not go any smaller than 5/8x24. When I was ordering my 6mm CBI barrel I wasn't sure what thread size. I was worried that 5/8x24 might open the bore when its turned down and was considering larger. I spoke to one of the gents at Criterion and he assured me when they do it at CBI they will not open the bore. My barrel arrived last week after 15 weeks and they did a beautiful job on threading it. It was worth the 75 bucks they charge. I want to thank Jim Brenda at NSS for their part in that barrel also. Now to get a brake fore it.

Like the other guys said, you should go 5/8-24, which is the standard .30 cal thread pitch. Then you'll have less of your barrel machined away, and you'll be sure to have a big enough hole through the brake (many AR brakes designed for 5.56mm projectiles may be a tight fit for 6.5mm bullets).

Google the Little ******* muzzle brake. Doesn't need washers or timed. Makes my Savage 16 300 wsm shoot like a 243. Take it off when cleaning myself. The one on my 260 and 308 are a pain in the butt to clean and the 308 has more recoil than the featherweight 300 wsm.
