So I got this rifle in a trade recently and I was having problems with inconsistent reset. I would cycle the bolt and sometimes the sear wouldn't catch so the striker would move forward when I lowered the bolt handle. I traced the problem to the torsion spring on the sear not pushing it all the way forward. I drove out the main trigger pin to reshape one of the legs of the spring and while that worked, when I reassembled the thing, my safety wouldn't turn on. The striker will drop in either the off or the middle position where I should be able to cycle the bolt but not fire the gun and won't move into the rearmost position at all. Any idea what might cause this? It seems like this part of the safety

which is also this pin

I have a long action 308 without the accutrigger presumably from the bankruptcy era if that makes any difference.

Try adjusting the setscrew on the bottom of the safety bar to clear the pin. I believe that's where your problem lies. The safety bar needs to be angled slightly to clear the pin.

Or is there another one hiding somewhere?

I messed with that a little last night but it didn't seem to help. Is it supposed to be protruding far enough so that the pin in the second pic slides under the metal tab with the bends in it?

Are you sure you have the safety bearing( pin ) between the safety detent spring and the safety assembly ( bar)?

I don't have better shot but the bearing is under the spring in this pic which is it's correct position. A better view of the two.
