I used to lurk and post on the old Savage board years ago but stopped coming by when life got too busy.

Well, I am now semi-retired and getting back into shooting more often, so here I am.

I own about a dozen Savages including two Italian made combination guns that were imported by Savage years ago (really nice guns by the way). I do find the Savage bolt guns ugly to look at but they are my favorite bolt action because of the ease of changing barrels / bolt heads and the fact that they tend to shoot better with similar barrels than my Remingtons. I have only sold ONE of my Savages, and I still regret it. It was a Stryker with a heavy 16" ER-Shaw 308 barrel on it that was amazingly accurate but I rarely shot it. I wish I still had it!

Most of my shooting is for fun, though I have looked at some kind of long distance rifle competition like F-Class or PRS but there aren't any matches near me. I like to shoot at 300 to 1000 yards+ with the 338 Lapua, 50 BMG, 6.5-284 or the good old .308 at the 1k or less distances.

Thanks! Who is that weird kid over in the corner? I don't think I ever noticed him before? He looks kind of picked on. (Savage Axis Rifles)

I touched my first Axis on Friday. Not a bad looking rifle really. I prefer the solid top to the regular 10/110 actions. Too bad they are not 100% compatible with the original style, I would probably be buying several if they were, but I am not too keen on losing compatibility with my rather large inventory of stocks / chassis / triggers etc. I might end up getting one MDT chassis for the Axis and see how it goes. It looks like you can get a complete rifle for less than a used "regular" Savage action alone.

( I thought I had this on instant notification, thus the delayed thank you.)
