look through a lot of the info here, so if I understand it I just need the 30-06 bolt head and the 35 whelen barrel to make the switch or am I missing something(tools of course)

I think you will have to change out the 7 mm Mag magazine to a 30-06 one. Welcome to the "Brotherhood of the Barrel Nut". Where are you in New Mexico? I used to live in Clovis back in the 70's.

The follower isn't likely to be an issue, but could be. I'm not personally convinced after all of my swaps, that the Savage QC is good enough to actually say that they are different.
I've got a 7mm Mag follower happily feeding a 22-250, and a 30-06 follower feeding a 264WM, then a 25-06 feeding a Creedmoor.

I actually did this exact swap some 8 years ago but with a RH action. I don't recall if the follower needed replacing, but I did swap the barrel, bolt face, and mag box. Be warned that 35 whelen ammo is rather hard to find. You will also need the barrel wrench, go/no go gauges, and preferably an action wrench.

I reload for over 20 calibers now so probably will fire form the brass have over 1000 milsurp 06 cases so I see midway has the left hand 06 bolt face and barrel the barrel comes as a kit with wrench and gauges but now thinking about 338 instead of 35 Whelen any thoughts less parts to change? Or not

338 WM needs a magnum bolt head.

338 WM needs a magnum bolt head.
Which he already has in his 7mag.....

The .338 WinMag would be a straight up barrel swap and headspace.
