I am curious, is it safe to swap the entire bolt from a short action .223 in to what was originally a short action .473 bolt face gun and of course switch barrels.
My dad has a 223 that he'd like to convert to a 243 and I have a 308 that I might convert to 223 if the swap would work.

Thanks!

It works fine - have 2 bolts for a 12 and the 473 came with out the ejector witch was fine as I use it for a 22br tight neck single shot - no dented necks.
Got the bolt from Midway.

Good to go if you recheck / reset headspace.

I got lucky and have 2 .473 bolt faces on 2 guns. They are machined close enough that I can swap them back and forth. Both close on a go gauge and do not close on a go gauge with 1 layer of scotch tape on them. I don't swap them, but it is nice to now that I could.

Thanks guys.
I just remembered his 223 is left handed, so scratch that idea... guess I'll do another 6mm of some sort!

You could just get the .223 bolt head,, It is easy to change and we can walk you through it if needed, I change my bolt head from .223 in the summer, then .308 in the winter. Takes me 5 minutes to change out.
