I just picked up a model 12 in 270wsm. I was going to put a weaver one piece multi slot base on it with burris xtreme tactical rings. I have a nikon monarch 6-24x50. I was wondering if I could fit low rings or if medium would be the best bet? Also I want to upgrade the stock. Would a bell and carlson varmint/tactical be good buy or what do you guys recommend? Thanks in advance for any help.

Installed a one piece extended 20moa weaver base on mine with short quad lock rings and my nikon 40mm scope will hit front of base if slid back to far. I've heard of trimming off the extended part for scope clearance. Maybe you could pickup a set of both med and high from somewhere you could return one that doesnt work? should be able to eye ball without installing. Cant help you much on stock decisions, hadn't decided myself yet. One thing to keep in mind that if you have a plastic stock you may need additional parts for dbm. A element chassis may not be much more fiquiring cost of dbm and if you want acis style mags.

With a 50mm objective, I think your going to need at least medium height rings.

I've heard of trimming off the extended part for scope clearance.

I had to do this on a Rem 700 with the Weaver extended base to get the scope back far enough. It took less than 5 minutes with the Dremel to cut it off & sand it down, and maybe 10 seconds with a sharpie to 'paint' the raw aluminum black. On the rifle the cut was in such a well hidden spot (obscured by the scope) that no-one would ever have known...

This is my model 12 in 308 with medium rings installed, 20 moa base with 6x24x50 scope and they were a little high ordered low rings and they fit perfectly with about 5mm clearance. http://i1379.photobucket.com/albums/ah124/rporthopod/35f3254e-5e27-4f65-bfce-a6a5db3e2e7c_zpszojtaw2o.jpg

The low height rings should be fine.

rporthopod, where did you get your b&c adjustable from? I've been looking high and low for one but none of their retailers seem to have them.
