My daughter's boyfriend has a model 25 rimfire, looks like a mini falling block. it's not firing consistently. What should we look at or is this something only a gun smith should take a look at?

I don't think were talking about a Savage model 25 here, thinking it's a Stevens falling block model unknown right now.

Guessing it's chambered for 25 rimfire, correct?

Must be a real old gun chambered in that round, surprised you actually still have ammo for it.

What do you mean it's not firing consistently? Is it not touching it off every now and then? I'd hazard a guess it's the main spring right off the bat. For a gun that's most likely over 100 years old the spring is most likely pretty weak and doesn't have enough juice to set the primer off.

nope, not 25 rimfire. says on the barrel 22lr, 22 long, 22 short. i think they were made for True Value hardware stores specifically, in the '70's. and yes, randomly doesn't fire from what they told me.

Alright, now I see what you've got. It's a Savage model 72 only a Westpoint version.

Numrichs has hammer springs for them for $5.05 plus shipping, should fix the problem.
