Which model for hunting AND target??

Happy New Year all... I'm considering purchasing a model in .308 that is light enough to carry in the woods, but the barrel is heavy enough and accurate to take to the range to shoot up to 1000 yds. No, not competition, just accurate enough to try my hand at ringing steel at distance. AND... (just one more little request... ) a lefty.... is that too much to ask?:rofl:

If you dig around you might be able to find some other models with varmint barrel with not as many flashy options. I think the FLV came in 308 as well.

If your not opposed to building instead of buying, I would go with a 18-20" bull/varmint barrel. Its gonna be a little chunky weight wise, but nothing excessive, if you wanna cut down more weight you could always go with a fluted barrel.

Savage also will make just about anything a dealer asks for/orders, so if you have a favorite dealer, they could always order you one of the 20" 10FCP-SR's with a left hand receiver, the you've got a great starting platform for long distance shooting and a gun that should weight around 10-11lbs set up for hunting. Also could go with QD rings and have two different scopes to cut down weight more. I like a 1-4 or 2-7 for hunting, but none of my hunting shots are ever more than 100 yds, then you could pick up something like a SWFA SS 10x for long range shooting.
