Value of a model 16 lightweight action/stock

I've been trying to find a stainless 7mm-08 barrel for a gun I'm going to build for my wife for about 6 months now with no success. I'm now thinking about buying a complete model 16 lightweight hunter and stealing the barrel off it, and selling the rest. What's the approximate value of the action brand new unfired, and the value of the plastic stock? Sorry if this is the wrong place for this thread.

Stock is not really worth anything if it's a cheap Tupperware one. Stainless complete new short action is prob $400-450 I would say.

I would say a stainless one is. I would give that for one.

7mm-08 is not the most common caliber, and it is desirable. Not a lot of those barrels it seems. Being a stainless model 16 it is even rarer than a blued gun. Good luck.

I was just teasing. I was actually going to post the eBay link as well (to help a brother out) and saw that you already had. I am not necessarily looking for stainless, and would really prefer a heavier contour.

Just purchased a Savage 16 LWH in 7mm08 from Buds Gun Shop for $597.00 before KY sales tax. The stock is the current cheap Savage tupperware with Axis style magazine and plastic trigger guard used on Savage budget model. It has little if any resale value. The Savage 16 LWH action weights about 1.5 oz less than a standard model Savage 16 action, but it does have a fluted bolt. The barrel is 20" with a featherweight contour and weights 2 lbs, 1 oz verses a Savage SS 22" sporter barrel at around 2 lbs, 5 oz.. For comparison, the Savage 16 TH XP ($620.00@ BGS) may be a slightly better value. Although you get the same worthless tupperware stock, you should be able to sell the Nikon BDC package scope as a new take-off for around $75.00 on Ebay. Plus the Savage 16 TH has a 22" sporter barrel and only weights about 7-8 ounces more than a Savage 16 LWH with 20" barrel out of the box.

I went with the Savage 16 LWH because I picked up a rarely found used Savage LWH walnut stock for sale a couple of months ago. I just finished fitting, refinishing and bedding the stock for the Savage 16 LWH action and barrel. I upgraded the plastic bottom parts to matching SS metal trigger guard, DBM frame assembly, magazine bottom cap and grip cap. The new Savage 16 LWH in 7mm08 with Tupperware stock weighed 5 lbs, 12 oz out of the box. The new build pictured below is 6 lbs, 8 oz.. All of the weight gain comes from going with metal, instead the standard LWH plastic bottom parts, the steel Weaver Grand Slam bases and Burris Signature Zee rings instead of Talley LW rings. The bare walnut LWH stock is actually slimmer, lighter and 2.5" shorter than the bare tupperware stock Savage has decided to put on the newly released Savage 16 LWH.

Usually one buys a factory rifle for the action, not the factory barrel. There are several places that will make a stainless barrel for you within 5-8 weeks.
