For a hunting rig why use such a heavy barrel contour? Here's a little knock around carbine in .308 I did a while back. It started out as a wood stocked model 10GL in .243.
I used parts from the classifieds here and the barrel is a .308 sporter that has been cut down to 16" threaded and braked. By cutting down a sporter you're keeping the "Fat" end anyway :)
Also got an old flatback detachable mag stock and converted it to lefty as well as significantly reducing the length of pull beffore doing a "sponge camo" paint job on it and sealing it up with dull coat. Of course the usual tuning of the 3 screw trigger and bolt lift kit were performed as well.
I've been meaning to loose the picatiiny rail and heavy vortex diamondback I had sitting around, and replacing it with 2 piece standard leupold bases and rings setup with an ultralight. That would also bring down the scope closer to the axis of the bore where I could lose the Kydex cheek riser I made and further cut the weight. The whole rig is 37" long brake included and the same length as a 10/22. easily well under your weight requirement. It's very accurate and has plenty of energy. Velocity loss with the 16" barrel is negligible and I promise there is not a whitetail in the country that wants to line up in the crosshairs.

With the money that strikers are bringing these days, and the way they are appreciating along with the fact that they are discontinued and desirable, as well as dimensional differences that will most likely complicate things, I would leave the striker alone and just start with an inexpensive clearance or used rifle. Keep the striker whole and in the safe. You'll be glad you did.

It's easy enough to cut down a sporter barrel yourself and I have actually crowned several using a lee case trimmer (https://reloadingunlimited.com/product/lee-case-trimmer-cutter-and-lock-stud/?gclid=CN6Jgr-MgMoCFYcbgQodLRYKrg ) and using the appropriate caliber of case length gauge as a pilot to keep it centered (http://www.amazon.com/Lee-Precision-308-Gauge-Holder/dp/B000NOSGOU ) just chuck the case trimmer up in a drill and it will very quickly put a nice flat slightly recessed 90 degree crown on the barrel after you cut it. it will go from this

Nothing to it. and the tools are cheap and a lot of guys already have them. I just used what I had in my box when i figured out how well the Lee case trimmer cuts a crown without expensive tools.
