Those of you who are running brakes and cans on your .338 Edge rifles, what size muzzle thread do you favor? The Edge specifically is stuck in my mind right now; I'd also like to learn what .338 Lapua or .338 RUM owners are using. Is 5/8-24 sufficient? I had read about belling on button rifled barrels and wondered if the larger bore diameter would necessitate a larger thread.

The most common is still the 5/8-24.
Sako and AI use one of the M18 variants, M18-1 & M18-1.5. DTI runs the 3/4-24 thread.

But if you want to take a closer look, here is a helpful page with some details.

I ran 5/8-24 on mine with Ross Schuler brakes.

Mine is 3/4x24.

Interesting stuff. Thanks, guys! There do seem to be a great many more options in 5/8-24 than any of the larger thread patterns. Moreover, a choice of 3/4 inch threads would almost be dictated by the device rather than vice versa. So far I've found stuff with pitches of 20, 24, and 28.

I'm threaded for 3/4x28 tpi on my .338 Lapua. Like you said, my decision was dictated by the muzzle device, as I had an Allen Precision 5-port (large) PainKiller that I wanted to use. When you start getting into the thicker threads, keep in mind whoever is threading the barrel will probably want a specific thread length as well. Mine is .850" but I had to find that out from the brake manufacturer.

I think the 5/8x24 thread pitch would suffice, but I always prefer to overdo something rather than be sorry that I didn't. Ymmv.
