So it was this past summer that I did my build. It took me awhile to figure out how to post pictures on here, but I decided it was time to do it.

Started with a new Stevens M200 in 300 Win Mag. I purchased it brand new years ago, knowing I was going to build but sort of forgetting about the rifle with other projects. Finally decided with the 338-06 for my rifle, going with Bison Gun Works for my barrel. Stainless barrel with a .750" finished diameter at the muzzle, 25" total. Jim did a great job with the barrel.

After I decided on that, I started piecing everything together. Parts are:

Timney trigger, set around 3.5 pounds
Tactical bolt knob from Tactical Works
EGW 20 MOA rail, trimmed even at the barrel nut
Hogue Ghillie Green pillared stock, blind mag
Vortex Diamondback HP 4-16x SF
Vortex scope rings

Then I had the barreled receiver finished in Mcmillan Tan, and the bolt, knob and rear hardware finished in armorer's black.

With neck sized, fireformed brass, I am under .5 MOA out to 300 yrds with the rifle. 61.3gr RL17, WW brass, CCI LR primer, 225gr Accubond @ 2805 fps, OAL 3.470"

It was going to knock a good Maine deer over this hunting season but I unfortunately tore my shoulder in October and had surgery, missed all of hunting season.

Here are a few pics of my first Savage build. Hopefully you enjoy them.

Darn fine looking rifle! And a good shooter to boot. Now get that shoulder healed up so your ready for next year.

Great looking rifle- built a 338-06 off a 200 LA a few years ago, it shot great with 225 ABs as well.

Sure you didn't tear the shoulder sighting that thing in?

Wish my injury story was that nice. Simply working out and the shoulder let go.

I use the PAST shooting pad for extended range sessions and load development, works wonders and never leaves me hurting. No chance of bad habits forming after 30-50 shots in a day from the heavy hitters.

I assume that is a nice recoil pad on the stock or at least I hope so cause you will need it. When I was developing a load for my 338-06 rifle I discovered that after about 20 rounds my hand would tingle after pulling the trigger. Even though it had a recoil pad (hard orange rubber) it was old and offered very little protection. Install a LimbSaver before my next session and saved myself the pain. As far as shooting goes, Know Pain, No Gain.

Looks very slick. How does it group at 100yds for you? What barrel blank did you get from jim at bison GW? I was going to order a barrel from him in 6mmx223 but hadnt heard much about how they shoot so I opted to go with jim from apache.
