Resizing new brass?

For neck tension that is. Do you or don't you? Specifically Brand spanking new Lapua brass. Or just load and go the first time out? Intuition tells me load and go and that any kind of sizing before first firing is kind of a waste of time especially with lapua brass. No?

Why don't I ever ask questions BEFORE I do something??? :frusty:

As for the way I do it, You answered your own question! First shot for me is just to fire form. I do observe the results, just so I know what a virgin case is capable of. :-)

Ive gotten to the point that I start to second guess myself. I like to learn by making a lot of bad decisions lol.

i run ALL new brass through a sizing die...most new brass has very tight necks also take a hand full and look at the necks...several will not be nice and round.

This is exactly what I do. They come amazingly packaged, but still, in shipping they can fall, bounce around, be slightly out of round, then that expensive brass won't preform as well as it can.

I would neck size all new brass, so that you have the same consistency on your second loading that you had on your first.

I full length size all of my new brass just so I know that everything will be forming up from the same baseline. Of course, I full length size on every reloading as well.

I've been running new brass in my Lee collet die prior to the first loading to center up the necks.

Well half of the box of 100 I just loaded right out of the box. I figured they need to be fire formed before loading for accuracy any how. May have been a waste of time who knows. As a comparison I'll look at resizing the rest if accuracy is off or crazy spreads in velocities. I only have flown die so that seems a bit over kill for new brass . I suppose if I had just a neck die it would be a no brainer.
