This weekend I put 50 more rounds through my Savage .308 for a total of 200. I broke it in according to the Savage website, crazy tedious operation, the 200 are after that. Half were factory 150gr from Norma and the others were reloads in the middle of the scale 150gr Hornady FMJBT. I have been using Kroil and Butches. Accuracy seems to drop off after 20 shots. 100 yd and 150 groups open up to 1.5 from about my current best of .750+/-.

Should I try and polish the bore or get a better copper cleaner ? Suggestions ?

This picture is after the Kroil and some butches.

Might try using a the TUBB Final finish bore lapping system. You may have a rough barrel and the fire lapping will definitely cure that. I have used it in the past with great results. Might also try getting some gunslick foaming bore cleaner and letting that sit for a couple hours and patch it out.

Thanks for the help. I did manage to get the copper out after another hour. Would JB bore paste help ?

Jb bore paste is always good to have in the tool box. However, it takes too long.
I too have used the Tubb system with positive results.
I suggest using Bore Tech CU+2. copper cleaner. I've got a tool box full of solvents and this one works fast.
I personally don't like using copper solvents that are strong in aroma.
Use the Tubb system. You,ll be suprised how well it works.

Will place an order for the Tubb finishing kit and some Bore Tec. Will probably be after Christmas but will post my results.

Thanks again guys.

A little FYI FWest.
Buy a package of 308 mops. along with a 308 nylon brush. don't use a brass brush. the bore tech will eat it in no time flat.
Your gonna freak when you see for your self not just how much copper comes off your barrel but how fast the bore tech cu+2 breaks down the copper into liquid form.
The barrel has to be completely clean of copper in order for the tubb system to work .
